In a perfect storm of anger against the previous administration, popular support among youth, women, movie and television influence peddlers, and independent voters, Barack Obama was swept into office in the 2008 elections. Last week, his party experienced a “shellacking” of historical proportions. How fickle are our electors!

God writes to all of us in His Word about His election of grace. Every one whose name is written in the Lamb's book of life will be saved. God isn't fickle. He will never change His mind about His love for you! But, how do you know if you or those you care about are saved? Can you check from stem to stern to see “Mine” stamped or tattoed on your skin (or worse, “666” if not chosen)? Does a blood test or DNA screening reveal the secret?
God writes, “You have been saved by grace, through faith, apart from works.” (Ephesians 2:8). Instead of looking to ourselves for our election, we look to the cross and the empty tomb of Christ Jesus! Trust Him and you are saved by God's grace. Never doubt His love for you! It's not based on a corrupted political machine. He takes no bribes and He is always more than fair–He's gracious!
Now back to our earthly elections…as God's people, saved by His grace, we are to pray for the king  (in our case president) and all those in authority over us (every level of government). Pray for God to bless our leaders with sanctified common sense to face the many crises that have befallen our nation. Prepare to serve as model citizens whatever your vocation. Cooperate with all levels of our government as much as Jesus would and resist evil everywhere as peacefully, forthrightly, and strenuously as He would and our country will be blessed for your efforts!
