Chicago news lately has been focused on the eligibility of Rahm Emanuel to run for mayor. The Illinois Supreme Court will have to rule on that one, but the controversy does bring up the issue of residency.
As a child one of my favorite hymns was, “I'm but a Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home.” Are you living as if you are already a citizen of heaven, even while you reside on earth? Do your values, investment of your time, talents, and treasures reflect a heavenly or earthly bent?
Whether the friend of the president and the Daley Machine can utilize his $11,000,000 war chest to win by campaigning against “the politically connected” and as a champion of the little guy is something for the courts and voters of Illinois to decide.  A more eternally important question is, “Does our Lord “Emmanuel”–literally “God with us” rule as king in my heart by grace through faith?”
