Last week one of my wife's bright and affable young piano students entered our home and started sniffing the air to determine what we might have had for supper. I have vivid memories of my days as a paper boy, entering the homes of my customers on collection day and remember the various aromas that greeted me at the front door.
Whether it's “Slumdog Millionaire,” the gritty movie presentation of “Les Miserable,” or the beastly “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” powerful film-making produces images and sounds that evoke visceral responses and even conjure up scents and sensibilities. Whether it's the lair of Jabba the Hutt, the basement of the slumdog's outhouse, Ken kesey's “Cuckoo's Nest,” or a festering bayou, there are some places you wouldn't want anyone you care about to have to endure.
And all of them are nicer and more short-lived than hell! Care enough to shout out a warning and repeat it as often as necessary to all those in your life you'd like to avoid hellfire. Point them to the cross of Jesus as the way out, pray for them and with them, and keep pointing our world to Christ until He welcomes you home to heaven!
