On a particularly joyful night with my grandchildren I made up a silly song. Sophisticated older Aaron chuckled patiently while Andrew's whole body shook with laughter as he begged, “Sing it again!” Anyone who has ever sat next to me during the National Anthem or during a hymn-sing knows that I creak, croak, or clank along on my one or two notes more than I sing. Grandpas will do lots for their grandkids, however, so I sang my silly song until my voice gave out to totally hoarse creaking and croaking. And still the call, “Sing it again!” was followed by more laughs and giggles.
Some things ring true and others creak, croak, and crank like counterfeits. The Bible tells us “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and destroy,” (James 4:12) and it will ring true eternally. On Judgment Day, may you and your loved ones be on the right side of His Story, in spite of the creaks and croaks, and counterfeit cranks emanating from some corners and even some churches in our society. “Repent and believe the Gospel,” and “Be faithful unto death and I will give you the crown of life!” are just as true today as they were yesterday, believe it or not.
