George Clooney recently got in trouble with the law for protesting the carnage in the Sudan.  While the Bible certainly wouldn't approve of all of his behavioral and lifestyle choices, Clooney's humanitarian work on behalf of the victims of injustice in Africa deserves attention and respect. The atrocities (often done in the name of Allah) in Darfur, the Sudan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone (almost all of Africa, really) cry out for justice and relief. George Clooney is leveraging his celebrity to focus the world's attention on some of the most heinous war crimes imaginable.

What are you doing with your celebrity? You're not a movie or TV star of the same magnitude as Clooney, but in the constellation of God's children you may shine a thousand times more brightly as you do your best to love, trust, serve, and obey God to the very best of your ability. The LCMS has been involved in works of mission and mercy from its very beginning. LCMS Lutheran World Relief is reaching around the world with your love and support in God's name. Use your celebrity, your sphere of influence, to inform your peers of the atrocities and gaping needs the devil has wrought. Get involved locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally with causes about which youa re passionate. Engage in fund-raising to support relief efforts like the Lutheran Malaria Initiative. Help your neighbors, especially widows, orphans, single moms, veterans and their families (wounded and otherwise). Inform yourself about the candidates and vote for those which share your godly values. Use your freedom, influence, and resources to undo the works of the devil, in Jesus' Name.
